| Meteor Data Communication España, perteneciente al grupo holandés MDC, se constituyó en el CEEI de Valencia en 1998 con el objetivo de ser algo más que una filial comercial. El grupo está especializado en la comunicación de datos vía meteoros, que sirven como repetidor pasivo de mensajes cortos.
Dirigida por Jorge Pinel y formada por una plantilla de 14 personas, 11 de ellas en el departamento de I+D, la compañía fue creciendo hasta convertirse en una filial autónoma que crea sus desarrollos, a partir de la tecnología Meteor Burst, y los aplica en el área de cobertura asignada, que comprende España, Portugal, Italia, Suiza y Francia.
La transmisión de paquetes de datos de SMS vía meteoros tiene un gran inconveniente, la limitación de tamaño, que explica por qué las grandes compañías de telecomunicaciones prefieren los satélites artificiales antes que investigar esta tecnología. Sin embargo, según Jorge Pinel, el sistema de transmisión de MDC, mucho más barato al no pagar satélite, tiene importantes aplicaciones, como son la gestión de flotas, con localizador GPS y envío de mensajes; el control remoto y transmisión de datos a estaciones meteorológicas, depuradoras, oleoductos y otro tipo de instalaciones; el correo electrónico básico donde no hay conexión de Internet y, por último, la transmisión segura de claves o contraseñas, imposible de interceptar y muy útil como complemento a Internet.
Meteor Data Communication Spain, pertaining to Dutch group MDC, was constituted in the CEEI of Valencia in 1998 with the objective of being something more than a commercial branch. The group is specialized in the data communication via meteors, that serve like passive reflector of short messages.
Managed by Jorge Pinel and formed by a group of 14 people, 11 of them in the I+D department, the company was growing until becoming an independent branch that creates its developments, from the technology Meteor Burst, and it applies them in the area of assigned cover, that includes Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland and France.
The transmission of packages of data of SMS via meteors has a great disadvantage, the limitation of size, that it explains why the great companies of telecommunications prefer the artificial satellites before to investigate this technology. Nevertheless, according to Jorge Pinel, the system of MDC transmission, much more cheap when not paying satellite, has important applications, as they are the management of fleets, with localizer GPS and shipment of messages; the remote control and data transmission to weather stations, purifying, pipe lines and another type of facilities; basic electronic mail where there is no Internet connection, and finally, the safe transmission of keys or passwords, impossible to intercept and very useful as complement to Internet. |
